Event Description:
From hard drives to providing access, digital photo collections possess a unique range of challenges for their long-term management. This symposium outlines some of the key components of working with the format, beginning with intake and processing, followed by digital care and organization, and finally sharing and promoting curated collections.
Through a series of brief presentations, a panel of digital librarians and photo archivists will walk through the nuts and bolts of topics such as image formats, accessioning, file naming schemes, storage types, metadata, access and outreach.
Geared toward novice practitioners and lone arrangers, attendees will gain knowledge of best practices and resources for managing various digital photograph collections and projects. Individual presentations will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A.
Moderator:
- Jeff Thompson, former Archivist, Twentieth Century Fox Photo Archive/currently Archivist, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
