$1000 preventive conservation awards from Conserv – Apply by March 3d!
Conserv is delighted to offer four more $1,000 awards to support preventive conservation projects. Anyone involved with collections care at an institution located in the United States of America is eligible to apply. The awards may go towards equipment, training, consultants or other costs directly related to addressing an agent of deterioration in your collection.
Examples of the types of projects that the Conserv Preventive Conservation Award has recently supported include:
- Installation of gasketing on aged cases in order to maintain a microclimate
- Preservation assessment for a vulnerable collection
- Implementation of cold storage for a film collection
- Housing upgrade for oversized textiles
Applications are due by March 3d, 2023. Funds will be dispersed in April, 2023.
A panel of preventive conservation professionals will review applications and choose winners. Winning projects will creatively minimize the risks from one or more agents of deterioration. Strong proposals will describe project impact and exactly how the funds will help realize a preservation goal. Photographs, budgets and other supporting materials are encouraged.
Projects must be completed within 90 days and presented at our first annual Conserv conference in September 2023. For winners attending the conference in person, Conserv will cover conference registration, airfare, and lodging. Winners will also be required to contribute to a 750 word project summary for the Conserv blog.
Disbursement will be in the form of a check or virtual credit card issued directly to the recipient, unless the winner specifies a different entity.
Winners will also receive a discount code for 25% off any supplies purchased from Gaylord Archival.
